Why Transfer Your Domain?
Moving your domain can simplify management, renewals, and support without requiring you to rebuild your website or change your email service.
Manage Everything Together
Keep your domain and related services organized under one trusted account.
Simplify Renewals
Use one place to review registration terms, renewal dates, and account details.
Get One Support Path
Reduce confusion by knowing which provider manages your domain registration.
What Happens to Your Website and Email During a Transfer?
A domain transfer changes the registrar that manages your registration. Your domain name stays the same, and ownership does not change simply because you move it to another provider.
Your website hosting and email service do not transfer automatically. If you keep the same nameservers and DNS records in place, those services should remain connected while the registrar transfer is processed.
Before You Start
Confirm Transfer Eligibility
Check that the domain is old enough to transfer and is not blocked by a recent registration, transfer, or contact change.
Unlock the Domain
Turn off the transfer lock with your current registrar before submitting the request.
Get the Auth/EPP Code
Request the authorization code from your current registrar and keep it secure.
Check the Registrant Email
Make sure you can receive approval messages at the contact address listed for the domain.
Record Nameservers and DNS
Save your current DNS settings so your website and email remain connected during the move.
Avoid Simultaneous Migrations
Keep hosting and email changes separate from the registrar transfer whenever possible.
How a Domain Transfer Works
Prepare
Confirm eligibility, unlock the domain, verify your contact email, and obtain the Auth/EPP code from your current registrar.
Submit
Enter the domain and authorization code, review the transfer terms and price, then submit the request through the secure partner checkout.
Approve and Monitor
Approve any confirmation messages and monitor status until the new registrar confirms the transfer is complete.
Keep Your Website and Email Online
A registrar transfer moves the domain registration only. It does not move your website files, hosting account, mailboxes, or email messages.
To avoid interruption, keep your existing nameservers and DNS records unchanged while the transfer is processing. If you also plan to change hosting or email providers, complete that as a separate project after the domain transfer is stable.
Common Eligibility Restrictions
A transfer may be unavailable or delayed when:
Recent Registration or Transfer
A domain registered or transferred within the last 60 days may not be eligible yet.
Recent Contact Change
A registrant contact update can trigger a 60-day transfer lock.
Registrar Lock Enabled
Unlock the domain with the current registrar before starting.
Domain Status Issue
Expiration, redemption, holds, disputes, unpaid fees, court orders, or UDRP actions can prevent or delay a transfer.
Extension-Specific Rules
Some registries and extensions have additional transfer requirements.
Review the current registrar status and the checkout requirements before submitting. Eligibility and timing can vary by extension.
